This book truly lives up to its name. Heartbreaking and truthful descriptions of grief are perfectly matched with monochrome illustrations. Rosen teaches us that its okay and normal to be sad. Because of the heavy subject material, it gives children and adults the chance to discuss something in which most people would steer away from. Excellent book that really leaves you deep in thought, rating it a 5 out of 5

This book is like the ones we talked about in class. It is an easy way to start the conversation about difficult topics with kids.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great book that can help teach children how to deal with grief. Often when bad things happen, children do not understand them and have trouble dealing with the emotions they are feeling. This book looks like it could be helpful to children and families alike.
ReplyDeleteI think books like this should be more implemented in the classroom setting. A lot of kids don't quite know yet how to handle emotions, or even the that it is okay to show them and to share them. Being sad is an inevitable part of a person's life and this could potentially be good for a child who struggles with sadness. This reminds me of that new Disney movie about a young child/teenager's emotions called "Inside Out"
